The results indicated that GO had the highest antibacterial activity, followed in decreasing order by rGO, graphite, and graphite oxide [45]. This study proposed a three-step antimicrobial mechanism for GFNs, which was similar to the cytotoxicity mechanism proposed for CNTs. That is, initial cell deposition on GFNs, significant membrane stress caused by direct contact with sharp edges, and subsequent superoxide anion-independent oxidation."
