HR748, the coronavirus bill

This bill appears to be the bill that the US congress is debating to give cash aid to Americans. “HR” means “House Resolution” and it originated in the House, but news is saying Pelosi (who is in the Senate) created her own bill. But it has not been passed into law yet. Note that the congress.gov website people seem to be 2-3 days behind in updating bills. I would hope they would make HR748 a priority. Some people are working from home due to a state mandate. Some are laid off, so they can get unemployment benefits. Some are going to the doctor a lot and have stacked up 100s of dollars in copays.

I’ve personally been to the doctor 4x for one illness since Feb 14. It just won’t go away. I’m on powerful anti-asthma medications that cost me $60 a month, but I’m one of the lucky ones. This same medication, on a different insurance plan, might cost someone else $100 a month. And that doesn’t count the other 2 meds I have to take just for the uncontrollable coughing.

Bills that originate in the house begin with “HR” for House Resolution. Bills that originate in the Senate begin with “S”, or “SR” for Senate Resolution. HR748 was originated by Joe Courtney (D-CT).

But there’s another bill, the Senate CARES act, SR3548 at https://www.congress.gov/bill/116th-congress/senate-bill/3548?q=%7B%22search%22%3A%5B%22S3548%22%5D%7D&s=1&r=1

That one originated in the Senate. This was originated by Mitch McConnell, which you can see if you go to the link. The latest action date on the bill can also be seen on the summary of the bill. But be aware the web site might be 2 days behind in getting things updated, they probably don’t have any sort of automation to update the web site.

Democrats still keep adding pork to the bill to further their own agenda while Americans suffer, out of work, with high copays and deductibles. Republicans don’t want more pork, with the higher taxes it brings, so they vote down the bill. And Americans still wait for help.
