A Pubmed search for hydroxychloroquine and coronavirus

PUBMED is run by the NIH in the US, and has over 1 million studies and abstracts that you can search through. If the whole study is not on the PUBMED site itself, there is often a link to the whole study on another site. The studies are for and against using hydroxychloroquine, commonly abbreviated “HCQ”. This can be a great starting point to find research on both sides of the issue.

You can even save the results of the search to a text file in various formats. The “Summary (text)” format is a bibliography with no abstract. One “Summary (Text)” entry looks like this:

The “Abstract (text)” format is plain text and has more information for each search result, and looks like this:

Due to the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic, a wide number of
compounds are under scrutiny regarding their antiviral activity, one of them
being hydroxychloroquine. Cardiac aspects of the use of chloroquine and
hydroxychloroquine are reviewed in this manuscript. A non-systematic review of
the medical literature was performed. Information about their safety and
efficacy as antimalarials, antivirals, as well as in the long-term treatment of
rheumatic diseases was collected. We found an anti-inflammatory effect with
reduction of longterm cardiovascular events, a very infrequent heart disease due
to a lysosomal effect of the drug, and at the hemodynamic level hypotension,
tachycardia, and QT interval prolongation, exacerbated when combined with
azithromycin. However, the rate of adverse cardiac events of hydroxychloroquine
(and chloroquine) was low.
