How to keep people from stealing your safety gear.

There are many types of safety gear that are in very short supply, like glasses, masks of various types, even cleaning wipes. Here are some ideas to ID your items in case they get stolen. People are panicked, some will steal things.

  1. Lock the items up when you’re not around. Lock them in a cabinet, desk drawer, or in a car in the trunk where they cannot be seen.
  2. Use a carbide pen or scribe to scratch your name, initials, or some other unique ID into plastic, ceramic or metal items like glasses, plastic face shields, etc. You can scratch your initials in a hidden place like inside a battery compartment. Here’s an Amazon search. Tungsten carbide, or carbide pen will work fine.
  3. Use acrylic paint pens to put your ID, initials or name on it. Acrylic cannot be washed off with water. I have these and they are really great. These also resist UV rays and will not fade outdoors so I use them on my garden hoses to mark which hose connects to which hose.
  4. Use a permanent marker to put your name, initials, or ID on your fabric or other face masks, gowns, box of gloves, cleaning products, etc. I use Sharpies because they actually last longer for the price, and can be found at Dollar Tree. But the ink does fade if they are used outdoors a lot.
  5. If you want to get fancy, use a hot iron with your initials to melt your initials into plastic or brand wood. This one is $19usd. And Amazon search is here. Some type of propane or butane torch must be used to heat up the branding iron.
