US Senate agrees to bill to help Americans during COVID-19

After Democrats rejected 2 bills to help America, a bill was finally agreed upon by the Senate.

The bill would:

  • give direct a one-time payment of $1,200 per adult and $500 per child directly to Americans. (Of course this will be taxed.)
  • give tens of billions of dollars to hospitals to help with large influx of patients.
  • replace the pay of salaried workers for 4 months.
  • allow laid off workers (yes, some are not just sent home without pay, they are laid off, which is a requirement in some states so workers can get unemployment benefits) to get unemployment plus $600 per month on top of that.
  • create a tax credit for companies who retain employees on payroll.
  • allow companies to defer payment of 6.2% social security tax.

Since the government moves slowly, you can expect your check to take at least 8 weeks to get to you.
